PeopleSoft Earnings Codes

Cornell's time collection and payroll system utilizes "earnings codes".  An earnings code consists of three letters that identify various types of compensation.  For example, the most commonly used earnings code is "REG" (regular pay).

Note: An employee's paycheck or pay advice generally includes a complete description of the type of earnings, not only the earnings code.

 General Information About Earnings Codes
:

  • Earnings codes may originate during the time collection process through the COLTS and Kronos systems, and during the PeopleSoft payment process using UPAFs, on-cycle paylines, off-cycle checks, and spreadsheets.
  • Each earnings code is associated with a number of attributes describing how compensation will be treated for overtime, inconvenience pay, leave accrual, and benefits (retirement and TDAs).
  • Monthly labor distribution reports frequently display earnings codes.

 Descriptions of Earnings Codes:

For your convenience, earnings code descriptions have been divided into codes used during the time collection process and codes used for other types of payments . Since the complete table of time collection codes is extensive, we have also provided a list of commonly used time collection codes , with a separate section that includes three options for recording holiday time worked .
